Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is a public university, which was selected by the Ministries of Education and of Science and Innovation as a Campus of International Exellence in 2009 (see video).
UC3M has a strong international focus with top teaching and research facilties as well as a wide variety of sport and cutlural activities. More than 16,000 undergradaute and 2,500 postgraduate students are enrolled in the areas of Engienering, Social Sciences and Humanities. UC3M also offers one of the most extensive selections of bilingual degrees in Spain, thus permitting students to study in Spanish or English (or both) thanks to the international faculty and the collaboration of leading businesses and professionals. International students also have the opportunity to study SPanish as a foreign language in the Language Centre.
According to a research productivity study on public Spanish universities (University of Granada, 2008), UC3M is on of the top Spanish universities in the overall per capita ranking based on research productivity, officially approved 6-year research periods, R+D projects and PhD programmes bearing a Quality Label recognition by ANECA (a state agency that evaluates, certifies and accredits Spanish higher education institutions).
Madrid is the capital of Spain, and a major European cultural venue. It as a rich history and cutlural heritage. Its art museums are among the best in the world and the vibrant culture of its bars, clubs and festivals create a tremendous social atmosphere. It also offers the possibilities of practicing a wide variety of sports and leisure activities. Madrid airport, train and bus stations are the best connected in Spain and its prime location in the cente of the country invites one to discover the nearby enchanting historical attractions of Toledo and Segovia and the rest of Spain. It's one of the most dynamic cities in Europe where it is so easy to feel integrated.
Barcelona and Madrid are the easiest Spanish cities to reach from the rest of Europe and there are direct flights from most cities in the world to their prize-winning airports. Madrid and Barcelona are connect by high speed train AVE (journey time is about 3 hours), and by frequent flights (about 1 hour).
