Within the context of the Europe 2020 Strategy, A-4U universities are considered some of the main Spanish actors in terms of participation and further development of the European Research Area (ERA). They are committed to consolidating the triangle of knowledge needed to move towards smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in Spain and Europe. With this in mind, A-4U universities joined forces to establish a permanent Office for the Promotion of European Research Activities (OPERA) in Brussels in 2009.

OPERA pursues the following objectives:

  • To support A-4U and its researchers in their efforts to achieve a better and more competitive research at European and international level.
  • To identify new policies and funding opportunities of interest to the A-4U universities and their researchers.
  • To participate in and influence R&D&I European policy decision-making.
  • To provide personalized assistance in Brussels to researchers who participate in European projects.

The office deploys its activities in close collaboration with the European Project Offices of A-4U universities. It also interfaces with the European Commission and other EU institutions and networks in Brussels. In addition, OPERA maintains close ties with Spanish institutions in Brussels working in the field of R&D&I.
